BOXOLOGY®

“True teachers use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; the having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse the bridge, encouraging them to create a bridge of their own”

— Nikos Kazantzakis

There have been so many studies to prove the powerful effect boxing has on mental health.

Greg and Cathy are both extremely passionate about the benefits boxing has on the mind and they developed courses in 2016 to teach individuals how to coach in boxing, the course is called Boxology® Academy. They have ran the courses successfully in the UK for 5 years.

Boxology® concept

Boxology® Academy is designed to give extensive knowledge to any coach who wants to use boxing as a form of training, so that they can then teach optimum boxing technique and teach it in a safe manner. Cathy and Greg want to ensure that trainers and coaches are, for instance, holding pads correctly for their clients, so as to ensure the correct form and mindset from the beginning.

The courses also cover anatomy and physiology, mental training, injury prevention, joint health, strength and conditioning exercises, all to help keep client/boxer and coach strong.

Boxology® Academy courses come in progressive modules: Round 1 and Round 2. The courses are recognised by the British Boxing Board of Control (https://www.bbbofc.com), the UK’s only Professional boxing governing body and endorsed by Active IQ (https://www.activeiq.co.uk), and the Chartered Institute for the Management for Sport and Physical Activity (https://www.cimspa.co.uk). After completing the course, the attendee will receive CPD points and be able to coach boxing on a one on one or group basis. Upon registering, the student will receive a comprehensive online Boxology® book and technical videos to complement each course and to give excellent reference. Cathy and Greg have been running Boxology® courses in the UK for 5 years.

Boxology® ran their first charity course in Iraq in 2019 in a refugee camp to women and children who had raped and abused during IS reign in 2014. They taught boxing to a group of 16 women every day for 7 days and then trained 3 women within the camp to coach boxing, so that those women could then coach once they left the camp, thereby making them self-sufficient. A small local charity in Iraq called The Lotus Flower then paid the women to coach as they recognised the huge benefits it had on the mental health of the women within the camp. The incredible positive effect this has had on the women and children is mind blowing and they are still coaching boxing weekly within the camp. Boxology® would run a boxing class in the morning for a selected group of women, in the afternoon they would run a course for a couple of chosen women who would carry on coaching boxing long term, making sure they are able enough to run a boxing class safely and effectively. Boxology® printed books and an app will be given to supplement course for use afterwards. Ongoing virtual support via WhatsApp and Facebook social media platforms help fine tune the boxing skill set and help to improve and advance coaching techniques.
